Archbishop Benson C of E Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
This means that we have a Child Protection Policy and procedures in place which we refer to in our policy below. Parents and carers are welcome to request a hard copy from the school office.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.
Keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility.

Pupil Welfare
Operation Encompass
As a school we support Operation Encompass, a project that runs jointly between schools and Devon and Cornwall Police
Operation Encompass is an information-sharing system between police and schools which enables the provision of timely care and support for the innocent and often silent victims of domestic abuse - the children. If a domestic incident occurs in the household of one of our families on the previous evening and one of our children is in that house, then the police will contact the nominated Key Adult at Archbishop Benson prior to the start of the next school day. This means that appropriate support, e.g. food, rest, comfort, can then be available for that child. This support can be overt or silent dependent upon the circumstances.
Our Key Adults are trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision, short-term and longer term, for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident.
